New York Giants vs. New York Jets - A Scheduling Oddity

by @ . Filed under Team Facts

Through the year 2007, the New York Giants have played the New York Jets on eight occasions since 1984 (the year the Jets started playing games at the same stadium as the Giants).  The odd thing this causes is that one of these teams, based on which team is designated the visiting team for each game, has to play the game as the visiting team in their own home stadium.

The Giants record in these eight games is 6 wins and 2 losses (which would obviously make the Jets 2-6).  But, who is the more successful visiting team in their own stadium?  That goes to the Giants as well with a 3-1 record as the visiting team in New Jersey, which of course makes the Jets 1-3 “on the road at home”.

Tackled… With Children, a Pittsburgh Steelers Sitcom

In 1969, the Pittsburgh Steelers tried out and signed a young football player to their roster who would go on to make a big name for himself. Terry Bradshaw? No. Franco Harris? No. We’re talking about the amazing and talented Ed O’Neill. In case you didn’t know, Ed O’Neill starred for a good solid decade as lovable loser Al Bundy on FOX Television’s Married… With Children. Ed’s football career didn’t last long as he was cut in training camp and didn’t make it to the regular season, but things seemed to have worked out just fine.

Great Bill Parcells Trivia Item

by @ . Filed under Player Facts

A little note of thanks to today’s New York Jets at New York Giants game. It’s always an interesting abnormality in the schedule when these two teams meet, because it means one of them is playing an away game in their home stadium. Since Bill Parcells has been the only coach to coach both teams since they started sharing the same stadium in 1984, that would make Bill Parcells the answer to this trivia question:

Who is the only coach to have coached an away game in his home stadium for two different teams.

A little more on this interesting matchup after the game is over.
