The Denver Broncos first season was with the American Football League in that leagues first season of operation, 1960. In fact, the Broncos are the only one of all ten of the AFL teams that merged into the NFL in 1970 that hasn’t changed its name or moved to a new location.
The early Broncos, though strongly supported by their fans, were not a very good football team. In fact, it took Denver thirteen years before they registered their first winning season. But, in those early days there were some key historical victories that belong to the Denver Broncos.
Two wins specifically:
The Denver Broncos were winners in the first AFL game ever played when they beat the Boston Patriots by a score of 13-10 in 1960.
In a preseason game in 1967, the Denver Broncos defeated the Detroit Lions becoming the first AFL team to ever lodge a victory against an NFL team.
Though not plentiful, there were some historically significant victories for those early Denver Broncos teams.
