The Interesting Coaching Career Of Ted Marchibroda

The Interesting Coaching Career Of Ted Marchibroda

Ted Marchibroda has served as both an assistant and head coach in the National Football League. The interesting thing about his coaching career is the teams that he has coached for.

From 1975 through the 1979 season, Marchibroda was the head coach of the Baltimore Colts. During his stay there they went to the playoffs three times, each time losing in the first round. Thirteen years after leaving the Colts following the 1979 season, Marchibroda was hired again as their head coach, this time while the team was located in Indianapolis. Marchibroda’s only two playoff wins came during this second stint with the Colts during the 1995 season.

After being dismissed as the head coach for the Colts for the second time, Marchibroda was given his third head coaching job the following season. In 1996, the Cleveland Browns organization had moved to Baltimore which had been without a team since the Colts had left for Indianapolis in 1984. The franchise, now known as the Baltimore Ravens, was in need of a coach so they hired Marchibroda. His time as the first head coach in Baltimore Ravens history lasted just three years and he never posted a winning record.

So, Ted Marchibroda had three head coaching jobs, two of them were in the same city but not for the same team and two of them were for the same team but not in the same city. That’s truly an oddball coaching career if we’ve ever seen one.

There are solutions for those with financial problems who think that they have no way out though.

People should be well informed about any financial transaction that they enter into, but if they are truly in need then looking into payday loans may not be a bad option. The Broncos Kickers Just Keep Getting Younger And Younger

by @ . Filed under Teams In The News

It looks like the Broncos are up to their old tricks. After saying for years that you don’t need to invest a high draft pick to get a good running back, they’ve now moved on to kickers and punters who they evidently say you don’t need to invest a draft pick in at all. For that matter, they don’t even need any experience. Here’s a great look at the youngsters competing for the Denver Broncos kicking jobs this season. Good luck to them all.

Peyton Manning And The Top Ten TD Passers Of All Time

by @ . Filed under Player Facts, The Record Book

One of the more interesting things to note when you look at the all time leaders in touchdown passes is Peyton Manning’s spot on the list.

The Career Top 10 Touchdown Passing Leaders
1. Brett Favre - 442 TDs
2. Dan Marino - 420 TDs
3. Fran Tarkenton - 342 TDs
4. Peyton Manning - 306 TDs
5. John Elway - 300 TDs
6. Warren Moon - 291 TDs
7. Johnny Unitas - 290 TDs
8. Vinny Testaverde - 275 TDs
9. Joe Montana - 273 TDs
10. Dave Krieg - 261 TDs

Comparing Peyton Manning to the rest of the players on that list and one thing comes to mind. Brett Favre is at the top of the list and played 17 seasons in the league. Vinny Testaverde is on the list and played 21 season with seven different teams. But look at Peyton Manning, he is number four on the list of all time touchdown passes thrown by a quarterback, and he has only been in the league for ten seasons. He is averaging 30 TD passes a season, at that rate he would pass Brett Favre in a little less than five seasons.

Super Bowl Margins Of Victory By Decades

by @ . Filed under League Facts

There have been some exciting Super Bowls in years past, some even decided on the last play of the game, but there also were a long string of Super Bowl blowouts. That got us to looking at the Super Bowl margins of victory by decade. Which decade had the most blowouts or biggest margins of victory? Here are the results:

1960’s (Super Bowls I-IV)
The winners in these first four Super Bowls won by an average of 17 points, making for some games that were decided long before the final tick of the clock.

1970’s (Super Bowls V-XIV)
The winners in this first full decade of Super Bowls won their games by an average of 11 points per game. This decade saw a tightening up of the scores and more teams that were equally matched play against each other in the big game.

1980’s (Super Bowls XV-XXIV)
With the largest margins of victory in Super Bowls at 22 points per game, the 1980’s saw its fair share of blowouts. Included in this time were the Raiders defeating the Redskins 38-9, the Bears defeating the Patriots 46-10, the Redskins defeating the Broncos 42-10, and the 49ers defeating the Broncos 55-10.

1990’s (Super Bowls XXV-XXXIV)
The 1990’s saw the Super Bowl margins of victory reverse course and head back into the lower teens at 14 points per game.

2000’s (Super Bowls XXXV-XLII)
So far through the 2000’s, the Super Bowl margins of victory have returned to the levels of the 1970’s at 11 points per game. The matchups are tight again and many of the games have been highly watchable from beginning to end.

Another very interesting display of the cyclical nature of professional football.

Packers Running Back Ryan Grant Continues Holdout

by @ . Filed under Players In The News

Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant isn’t participating in team functions right now. He’s not practicing or anything else, but why? It seems he is sitting out and looking for a new contract.

Grant played running back at highly watched Notre Dame under coaches Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham. While he was productive, he never set the college football world on fire due to being on a team that didn’t always win and also the fact that he sometimes shared the backfield with future NFL running back Julius Jones.

Grant went undrafted and was signed by the New York Giants and spent the first year on the practice squad. After receiving a severe arm injury in a non-football related accident, he then spent his second season on injured reserve. At the beginning of the 2007 NFL season, the Giants traded Grant to the Packers for a late round draft pick.

Grant would join the Packers as the third string running back behind both Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn. Due to injuries, Grant got into the game finally in the second quarter during week 8 and ended up running for over 100 yards in an overtime victory against the Denver Broncos. Grant would finish the season rushing for 956 yards while only starting the last seven games of the season. He would also score eight touchdowns and only fumble the ball one time. The Packers proceeded into the playoffs where Grant unthinkably stepped up his game even more including a 200+ yard rushing performance in the divisional playoff round.

So yeah… I guess I understand Ryan Grant holding out for a contract fitting a starting running back.

A Look At The Top Ten Completion Percentage List

by @ . Filed under Player Facts, The Record Book

One of the more popular statistics used to evaluate a quarterback in the NFL is completion percentage. This statistic gives an idea of the quarterback’s control. Through the end of the 2007 season, here is a list of the top ten quarterbacks based on their career completion percentage.

1. Chad Pennington
2. Kurt Warner
3. Steve Young
4. Peyton Manning
5. Carson Palmer
6. Daunte Culpepper
7. Drew Brees
8. Marc Bulger
9. Joe Montana
10. Ben Roethlisberger

The interesting thing to note in this list is that all but two of these quarterbacks are still active. Only Joe Montana and Steve Young (coincidentally, teammates at one time) are on this list and retired. Some of these players may not be on this top ten list by the time their careers are over, but some will remain there for many years to come. An interesting thing about the top two players on the list, Chad Pennington has struggled with injury troubles and fallen out of favor with his team’s fans and Kurt Warner has started games for three different teams in a career that has seen him on top of the world and also given up on.

Interesting And Ironic Terrell Owens Information

by @ . Filed under Player Facts

Terrell Owens, the highly skilled Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, is a player surrounded by controversy. Much of the controversy that follows Owens is self inflicted and created. Terrell Owens’ life is divided into three equal pursuits: football, conflict, and explaining that the conflict was not his fault. Here is an ironic fact involving Owens’ autobiography that he put out partially to defend himself from criticism about being a bad guy.

Terrell Owens put out his autobiography in 2004 with the help of ghostwriter Stephen Singular. If you check the other works that Singular is credited with you’ll find a book about polygamist Warren Jeffs and also a book about the BTK serial killer. Not really the greatest company to lump yourself in with Terrell.

Our Unforgettable Trip To Vegas

by @ . Filed under Recommendations

Like many people, one of the wildest vacations I ever had was in Las Vegas. Vegas is the place most people head to when they want a wild vacation. It has a reputation for being an “anything goes” kind of place, and for the most part the reputation is earned. From the phenomenal sight of Hoover Dam, to the unlimited water recreation on Lake Mead, and of course the unparalleled action found on the world famous Vegas Strip, a trip to Las Vegas has the possibility of becoming one of those unforgettable vacations that you relive again and again once you go back home.

One of the things that made the vacation to Vegas pay off so well was the extensive research we had done before we left. We knew exactly what things we were going to see and which places we were going to go. We had purchased the necessary tickets before we even flew into town. We had checked out all the reference material available on .

The next place we’d like to go is Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta has a reputation for being a lively city and I’ve never been to the south so I thought it would be a great place to start and maybe headquarter at as we explored all that Georgia has to offer. Learning from our trip to Vegas, I plan on doing plenty of research to find out the best Things to do in Atlanta before we head out. I think this is just good strategy when it comes to planning a trip to a destination you haven’t been to before. Some great information along these lines can be found at Trusted Tours & Attractions, info like this can be the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful vacation. They also have great info on sightseeing tours too.

The Shortest Longest Touchdown Pass Of The Year

by @ . Filed under The Record Book, Your Questions

Another interesting question came in from Dana in Missouri. Dana comments that the longest pass thrown by a quarterback last year was a 91 yard pass thrown by Jon Kitna. She would like to know who threw the shortest pass that ended up being the longest pass of the year.

The simple answer is George Corbett who threw a 36 yard pass in 1932 that ended up being the longest pass thrown that year. Corbett only started one game that year for the Chicago Bears but evidently made the most of it. We all know that during those early days of the NFL there wasn’t much emphasis put on passing, so we’ll explore it a little deeper.

The shortest pass that ended up being the longest pass of the year since 1950 was thrown 79 yards by Babe Parilli in 1967 for the Boston Patriots.

The shortest pass that ended up being the longest pass of the year since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 was thrown 84 yard by Greg Landry of the Detroit Lions in 1973.

Thanks Dana!
