Eight Little Known Things About Ben Roethlisberger

One of the best young quarterbacks in the game today is the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger. He showed his great leadership skills early on and in his second season led the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory. In three of his first four seasons in the league and as starting quarterback for the Steelers, he has led the team to winning records. Through the end of the 2007 season his career touchdowns outnumber his career interceptions by 86-54, a difference of 32. But, here are eight things you may not have known about Ben Roethlisberger.

1. Through his first four seasons in the league, Ben Roethlisberger had his highest completion percentage during his rookie season (66.4%).

2. During the 2005 NFL season, Ben Roethlisberger actually punted the ball twice during games, he ended up with a very respectable 36 yard average. Not bad for a quarterback.

3. He would go 13-0 as a starting quarterback during his rookie season despite the fact that he started the season as the third string quarterback behind Tommy Maddox and Charlie Batch.

4. During the 2007 season, he led the league in yards lost by being sacked with 347.

5. Ben Roethlisberger played wide receiver during his freshman, sophomore, and junior years of high school. He got the chance to move to quarterback during his senior season and threw for over 4,000 yards, 54 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions in that season alone.

6. After just four seasons with the team, Roethlisberger had already thrown the second most touchdown passes of any quarterback in Pittsburgh Steelers history.

7. Though Roethlisberger is second to Dan Marino in terms of the youngest player ever to play quarterback in the Super Bowl, he is in fact the youngest quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl.

8. Because of the length of his name and a character limit in the software, his name is shortened to “Roethlisbergr” in all of the popular Madden football video games.

Nothing seen so far has proven that Ben Roethlisberger is anything less than one of the best young quarterbacks in the league. Not only are his numbers good across the board, his leadership skills are highly exceptional for someone of his youth. Roethlisberger has shown he has the guts to get through the tough games and the kind of skills that put up big numbers as well. Ben Roethlisberger is truly someone to keep an eye on for as long as he plays in the NFL.
