2011 Week 4 – NFL Fun Facts

We didn’t get our weekly fun facts from that weekend’s games posted last week. Kind of just slipped our minds. Here is a look and we won’t forget this week!

-Cam Newton first multiple rushing touchdown game of his career.

-Devin Hester broke the record for punt returns for a touchdown in a career by returning his 11th in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. The record had been previously held by Eric Metcalf who played for the Browns, Chargers, and Falcons.

-Calvin Johnson becomes the first wide receiver to have two touchdown receptions in each of the first four games of the season.

-In the Jets 34-17 loss to the Ravens, Mark Sanchez became just the 10th quarterback ever in NFL history to complete as few as 11 passes while attempting 35 or more.

-Tom Brady tied Joe Montana on the all time touchdown passes list with 273 when he connected with Wes Welker from 15 yards out in the first quarter of the New England Patriots gave against the Oakland Raiders.

-Michael Vick’s 416 passing yards in the Eagles 24-23 loss to the 49ers is the most yards he has ever thrown for in a game.

-Cam Newton has 1,386 passing yards through four games. This is the most ever for a rookie and the fourth most ever period. The only quarterbacks to throw for more yards in the first four games of a season were Drew Bledsoe in 1994 (1.417), Kyle Orton in 2010 (1,419), and Kurt Warner in 2000 (1,557).

-On Monday Night Football, Colts quarterback Curtis Painter connected with receiver Pierre Garcon on an 87 yard touchdown play. This was the fourth longest TD pass in Colts history and is longer than any touchdown pass Peyton Manning has ever thrown.

-Wes Welker has 40 receptions in the first four games of the season. That would put him on pace to catch 160 balls over the course of the year, a pace that would be very hard for he and the Patriots to keep up. The record for receptions in a season is 143 by Marvin Harrison for the Colts in 2002. Welker’s previous best came in 2009 when he caught 123 balls which puts him second all time on the most receptions in a season list.

-Aaron Rodgers threw 4 touchdown passes and ran for 2 scores as well. That’s only the 5th time a quarterback has ever done that. The others to do sor are Michael Vick, Jeff Garcia, Bill Kenney, and Eric Hipple.
