What Team Has Had The Most 90+ Yard Receptions In Their History


Well, we ask for questions to be asked and we certainly paid for it this time around. Ken, who didn’t include where he was from, would like to know which NFL team has had the most pass completions of 90 or more yards in their history. This one took awhile to dig up the answer for but, here it is.

In third place with six 90+ yard pass receptions in their history are the Rams.

In second place with seven 90+ yard pass receptions in their history are the Eagles.

And in first place with nine 90+ yard pass receptions in their history are the Lions.

A few more facts about 90+ yard receptions:

-The oldest player to catch a 90+ yard reception in the NFL is Cliff Branch who caught a 99 yard touchdown pass at the age of 35 from Jim Plunkett in 1983 for the Los Angeles Raiders.

-The youngest player to catch a 90+ yard reception in the NFL is Billy Howton who did so at the age of 22 years, 5 months, and nine days. This came during his rookie season in 1952 with the Green Bay Packers and the pass was thrown by another rookie, quarterback Babe Parilli.

-The first 90+ yard completion thrown in the NFL came in 1937 when the Chicago Cardinals quarterback Pat Coffee threw a 97 yard touchdown pass to Gaynell Tinsley.

-Members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame that have caught 90+ yard receptions include Bobby Mitchell (Redskins), Night Train Lane (Cardinals), Ollie Matson (Rams), Don Hutson (Packers), Marcus Allen (Raiders), Tommy McDonald (Eagles), Elroy Hirsch (Rams), and Tony Dorsett (Cowboys).
