Facts and information about the Calgary Stampeders
- The Calgary Stampeders were founded in 1935 as the Bronks, changing to the Stampeders in 1946.
- The Stampeders won their first Grey Cup in 1948 and didn’t win the whole thing again until 1971.
- In 1992 the Calgary Stampeders played an exhibition game against the Toronto Argonauts in Portland, Oregon. The following year the CFL’s short expansion into the United States occurred.
- In 1992, the Stampeders made Doug Flutie the highest paid CFL player by far when they signed him to a $1,000,000 contract.
- Doug Flutie brought the Grey Cup Championship to Calgary in his first year as Stampeders Quarterback.
- Near the end of Doug Flutie’s run as starting Quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders, his backup was future NFL Quarterback Jeff Garcia.
