Michael Vick, Dog Fighting, And The World Wide Web

Michael Vick is now definitely known for more than being the (former) starting quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. It was announced today that he will be pleading guilty to charges related to an illegal dog fighting business he owned.

An interesting side note, I decided to go take a look at MichaelVick.com (which forwards to mikevick.com) and lo and behold take a look at what came up on my screen (click to enlarge):

So, pleading guilty to federal charges, the possibility of state charges looming in the future, losing multi-millions of dollars in both salary and endorsements… and now this, running out of bandwidth. Well in the grand scheme of things it’s pretty small, but it’s still kinda funny.

I would just like to say to the Judge of the Vick case,I know it was a callous thing that michael did,but does a dog have a soul and what about the buffalo that the settlers killed back in the day.Up to this day they have not apologized to the Indians for killing over 60million buffalos.Iam saying this just to let you know that a dog is a dog,and a buffalo is a buffalo, but the Indians used every bit of the buffalo for food and shelter. We went through indiscriminately killing there lively hood,so whos to say what’s the worest.Mr.Huff of McComb MS

First, let me say that Mike Vick deserves to go to jail. I don’t think what he did was as bad as killing a person of course, but it was pretty bad. Bottom line, it doesn’t matter how bad I think it was, it was against the law. For him to run a dog fighting business with as much as he had to lose pretty much makes him a moron.

I was a fan of his and thought that although it was taking a long time, he was making some headway into becoming one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.

For the previous poster who said “what about the buffalo that the settlers killed back in the day, up to this day they have not apologized to the Indians for killing over 60 million buffalos.”

    Three things:

#1 – The senseless slaughter of buffalo is indeed a tragedy, again not the likes of killing actual people, but it’s a sad chapter in our nation’s history.

#2 – Why would they apologize to the Indians? The buffalo did not belong to the Indians.

#3 – If you are waiting for the people who killed the buffalo to apologize, it will be a long wait… they are all dead. Who is supposed to do the apologizing?

The Buffalo???? You have GOT to be kidding. Right? First of all, who are “we?” Were you there killing buffalo? Because I wasn’t, and I doubt you were either. So by “we” one can only assume you mean evil white men. One thing should be perfectly clear, if your lame analogy even deserves a response. There were no laws against killing buffalo at the time, indiscriminately or otherwise. That doesn’t make it moral, but no one broke any laws. Mr. Vick broke numerous laws while showing cruelty for animals who were first treated terribly to make them vicious, and then brutally killed when they weren’t vicious enough. Mr. Vick is a thug with a very little brain and an even smaller heart. All the athletic ability and money in the world will never change that. He is getting exactly what he deserves. And up until now we thought his BROTHER was the bad one. Nice family. The buffalo indeed. Give me a break.

During my lifetime, I have had my problems with the Justice system. At the time, I was quick to accuse everyone else for my actions. It was a mental escape only. It did not change the end result of prison time for me. Vick’s involvement in this horrific crime is certainly an outrage and I would be very surprised if the pictures of all those mistreated and executed dogs do not invade his sleep on a daily basis. Knowing the Justice system as I do, many persons plead guilty when they know that going to trial will result in much longer prisin time if found guilty. In fact, only about 3% of all criminal cases go to trial. I was one of that 3%. You can count on the fact that if found guilty at trial, Vick would probably have received near the maximum allowed by law or close to it. I am in full agreement with the NFL decisions made thus far. In fact, once Vick pled guilty, there should have been a ban of his involvement in the NFL. Pete Rose was banned from baseball and entering the Hall of Fame for gambling. Where is the parallel? Vick, like many sports personalities, make so much money that they become bored with a normal life and look for ways to live close to the line of social unacceptance. I can not have any empathy nor sympathy for Vick. The judge has a decision to make and I hope that he can stand erect in his robes and allow justice to be served in this case. WHen Vick gets to prison, there will be real DOGFIGHTERS waiting for him. He will see how it feels to be in a ring defending himself in every way. Inmates hate child molesters, rapists and indiscrimanant killers. Now we have another area of hate, DOGKILLERS! Take your punishment Vick, you earned it!

As ususal for the white man – a black man is not worth more than a dog….it has been that way since slavery. Michael you have pleaded guilty only because you would not get a fair trial. a jury of your peers would never be found 8 black men and four black women never it would have been 12 peta representatives all white… I believe in you and pray for you daily. you’re paying for all the black men they could not get, never mind the good you have done, you have money and they want it back. take care and remember few are called friends. John15:13 greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends…they were not your friends or they would not have turned against you. be safe….

Read Psalm 51 Make peace with yourself your friend Anita

It seems to me that we as Americans have lost our sense of compassion and forgiveness. We have become hard hearted. I have not seen this much attention for starvation of american poor children or falling schools. Personally, Micheal Vick neds prayer, and I am praying for him. Everyone should.

  8. Debi says:

WHY DO THE BLACKS ALWAYS BACK BLACKS NO MATTER HOW HORRENDOUS THE CRIME…..WHITES, LATINOS, ETC. CONDEM THEIR OWN THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME……..WHAT IS WITH THIS….ANY ANSWERS OUT THERE????????????

Ifeel Michael has beentalked about enough. He should tell nfl that he does not want to play football anymore. Now is no tv station that is not discussing. What ever money and state of mind he has he should just enjoy the remaining of his life.

  10. JACKIE says:

I SAY HANG THE “BOY” BY HIS BALLS. IF THE NFL TAKES HIM BACK THEY ARE CRAZY. HE’S NOT THE BEST BALL PLAYER. YES, A DOG DOES HAVE A SOUL. MOST DOGS HAVE MORE SENSE THAN SOME HUMANS I KNOW. WHEN VICK WAS KILLING THE DOGS, THEY FELT THE PAIN AND HE FELT NOTHING. HE SHOULD LOSE EVERYTHING. HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING. HE SHOULD HAVE FOUND JESUS A FEW YEARS AGO. IF HE HAD THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. IT’S A SHAME WE ONLY CALL ON GOD ONLY WHEN WE NEED SOMETHING OR LIKE VICK WHEN HE GOT CAUGH. I HAVE NO USE FOR PEOPLE LIKE HIM. BLACK OR WHITE.

  11. JACKIE says:

WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES KILLING THE BUFFALO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT VICK DID TO THESE DOGS. THE BUFFALO WAS FOR FOOD BACK THEN. I GIVE UP. I STILL SAY HANG THE “BOY” BY HIS BALLS.

I am in full support of Michael Vick and his road to succeeding dispite his bad choice. I think that it is a great opportunity for him to place some out of order things in his life in order and to be rid of many people in his life that should be out of his life. I am a dog owner of a pit bull and I was very disappointed to learn of his role but again, we are all with sin and bad choices so I wish that the media would stop with the witch hunt. It is my position that there were many people that were not as upset about the dog fighting as excited to see the opportunity to “maul” Michael Vick for various motivations. I am not making any funnies by using the word “maul” but Mr. Vick is the example that will be made from this ordeal. I never knew that PETA and other people were so concerned for animals when I have seen so many of them neglected all over my city. It amazes me how white collar crimes are dismissed and pushed under the rug and excused by high ranking officials (i.e. the White house) opps, and no one goes to jail. I do not think Mr. Vick deserved all of this personally motivated judgement but he deserves to be honest has he has now and await his punishment. He deserves the opportunity to play again. If we can allow a President and other officials who are responsible for the immoral approach to assisting the individuals during the Katrina terror, then surely Michael Vick should be allowed to play football again. If that isn’t disturbing then we must be savages. Personal note to Michael: Know that we have all done something that we should be ashamed of but most of our bad deeds are still a secret. Remember that this ordeal is purposed to redirect your path concerning the enhancement of you. Your past does not determine your future and readjusting your attitude about how you manage your life will create the chance to redeem yourself. Good Luck my friend and may the Christ be with you.

What Michael Vick CHOSE to do was not only cruel, it was a reckless, selfish, hideous, heinous and most of all cowardly thing.I only have one question for you people who choose to supoort this ignorant piece of work do you have what Michael Vick has inside of him that would make it possible to execute a dog, to electrocute to hang a dog, can you do that? IF any of you people who support Vick can honestly say you could engage in such a senseless and brutal thing it makes my blood run cold knowing this world is indeed inhabited by monsters and not the kind that just come out after dark.
Michael Vick has become the universal symbol for brutality.

  14. Liz says:

Michael Vick says he is sorry and says what he did was immature. Hey Michael are you sorry for what you did or are you sorry you got caught?
The NFL will be a much better place without the likes of you, Pacman,Ray Lewis, and what about that lowlife bottomfed pondscum retired player who once played for the bills he does not even deserve to have his name mentioned. All of these people have one thing in common they are self serving cowards who would choose to victimise another humanbeing or in Vick’s case dogs.
When Michael Vick goes to prison he goes in as a coward and a liar. He is no longer a football player he is a pariah someone who truly puts new meaning into you get what you give.

  15. princess says:

this is absolutely ridiculous. if this was peyton manning or tom brady would this even be up for discussion

  16. jack says:

vick, your sorry, pitiful, greedy, savage soul deserves to rot in hell. you’re lucky. if i was your judge you would have served every day of 20yrs hard labor, chain gang. the world should never have to suffer the consequences of monsters such as you. you, truly, should suffer the same pain as that which you directly inflicted upon those helpless canine creatures. you deserve to suffer alienation for the rest of your pathetic being. your criminal actions defy comprehension and can never be mitigated, no matter how many ignorant defenders you have. your defenders are your mental equal, less than 0. you’re a torturer and you deserve to be tortured. you’re lower than the lowest form of life. the lowest form of life does not torture other beings.

  17. Al says:

With the upcoming release of this monster, concerned citizens are worried that what he is might be forgotten. There are even rumors that he could become a role model for our childrens again via re-instatement in the NFL.
We are looking to form or join an association who’s mission is to make certain this creature is never allowed to receive sponsorship or be re-instated.
There is much to do to ensure that he, his whereabouts and his friends remain monitored by the authorities.

I would like to say that it is cruel what Michael did, but I stand on my grounds as being a true Vick fan! I believe he deserves a second chance! You can put a guy down, but if you put a black man down, and he is bound to do something much more different. than he already has, so don’t be so hard on Michael! I like top think, that he is a solution to all of us, not to commit a crime, or to think about it! I could care less, about looking for a person, with high reason, but a dog fight, shoudn’t be a crime, less the person that does it and kills the animals-in ding so is found guilty and should be put away! All people deserve a second chance at life! If you lock up a black man, you kill his hope and erase all of his strong beliefs, for what he stands for and what he believes, then you kill their spirit! Mike is the best and will always be the best in my book! Keep up the fight Mike and please don’t plug into dog fights, anymore! I am black and would like to see your name cleared! You go boy! Let’s hope someone put you on their team! Yeh! Vick!
