The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the best player in college football each year. While this is a great indicator of how good a college football player was, it is not a solid indicator of how good they will be in the pros. There have been Heisman Trophy winners that go on to the Hall of Fame like O.J. Simpson, Doak Walker, Marcus Allen and others. There have also been Heisman Trophy winners who have gone undrafted, passed over by every team in the NFL. Some great NFL players have won the Heisman Trophy while in college though, so that is one thing that keeps teams coming back and trying their luck with them each and every year.
Through 2010, only five teams have never drafted a Heisman Trophy winner. This isn’t to say they’ve never had one on their roster, just that they have never used their draft picks to get him. Those five teams are the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers, and Seattle Seahawks.
Every other team has tried their luck with Heisman winners over the years. One team has drafted more Heisman Trophy winners than any other too. But those five teams have yet to dip their toe in the Heisman Trophy pool.
