- The first Houston Texans Head Coach ever was Dom Capers who was also the first ever Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers.
- The Houston Texans were founded in 2002.
- The official colors of the Houston Texans are Deep Steel Blue, Battle Red, and Liberty White.
- The Texans were brought into the league as an expansion franchise, awarding an NFL team to the city of Houston because of their loss of the Houston Oilers a few years earlier.
- The 32nd team, and 2002 expansion franchise, was originally awarded to the city of Los Angeles. After the Los Angeles ownership groups were unable to put together an approvable package, the NFL awarded the team to Houston.
- The Texans became only the second expansion team ever to win their first game, beating the Dallas Cowboys 19-10.
- The first touchdown in Houston Texan history was thrown by Quarterback David Carr and caught by Tight End Billy Miller, it came on their third ever play from scrimmage.

There was an original Dallas Texans NFL team that folded in 1952. There was a prior Houston Texans that eventually moved to Shreveport, Louisiana that played in the 1974 World Football League. Yet another team played as the Dallas Texans in the 1990’s, this time in the Arena Football League. Finally, when the Sacramento Gold Miners of the Canadian Football League moved to San Antonio for their final year before folding they played as the San Antonio Texans.
- Quarterback David Carr tied an NFL record by completing 22 consecutive passes in a game. Mark Brunell had set the record a few weeks earlier on the exact same field.
- At the time, when the Texans drafted Amobi Okoye in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft he was the youngest player ever drafted by an NFL team at 19 years old.
