3000 Yard Passing Seasons By A Rookie Quarterback

We tackled the issue earlier this year about rookie quarterbacks and the 300 yard games they’ve thrown.  Another important number for quarterbacks is the 3,000 yard season.  So, how many quarterbacks have thrown for 3,000 yards during their rookie season?

The answer is four.

3,739 yards – Peyton Manning – 1998

3,593 yards – Jim Kelly – 1986

3,440 Yards – Matt Ryan – 2008

3,338 Yards – Warren Moon – 1984

Interestingly two of those players, though technically rookies in the NFL, had prior pro football experience in other leagues.  Warren Moon in the Canadian Football League, and Jim Kelly in the USFL.
