Colin Kaepernick has emerged during the 2012 NFL season as a real talent. He’s exhibited this talent before though, both while playing college at Nevada as well as before that at John H. Pitman High School in Turlock, California. For most fans he is something of a new thing though. Here is a look at five fun facts about this promising young quarterback.
-Colin Kaepernick was recruited by a number of major colleges looking at him for his baseball talent. The only college to offer him a football scholarship though was the University of Nevada.
-Colin Kaepernick’s first start as a college football quarterback saw him leading his unranked Nevada Wolf Pack on the road as 26 point underdogs to the always impressive Boise State Broncos who had never lost at home to a WAC opponent. Boise State won the game 69-67 in the fourth overtime as Kaepernick amassed 243 yards passing and three touchdowns along with 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The loss came when Nevada failed to make a two point conversion.
-At the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine, Colin Kaepernic was timed with a 4.53 second 40 yard dash, a 32.5 inch vertical leap, and a nine foot seven inch broadjump.
-Colin Kaepernick’s first NFL touchdown came in a September 30, 2012 win over the Jets when he ran one in during the second quarter from seven yards out.
-The first NFL player to intercept a pass thrown by Colin Kaepernick was defensive back Patrick Robinson of the New Orleans Saints in a 31-21 49ers victory on November 25, 2012.
