Unusual names are nothing new in the NFL, from the mildly odd to the entirely unpronounceable, the league has seen them all. The name Pierre, though popular in France, is not a popular name in the United States. There have only been four players named Pierre to ever play football in the NFL. Interestingly, three of those players were all playing during the same time in the late 2000s.
Pierre Woods was an undrafted linebacker out of the University of Michigan who saw time on the roster of the New England Patriots.
Pierre Thomas was an undrafted running back out of the University of Illinois who contributes a great deal to the New Orleans Saints.
Pierre Garcon was drafted in the 6th round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts and shows a great deal of promise.
The other Pierre to play in the league was Pierre “Pete” Regnier who played in just nine games over his two seasons in the NFL in 1921 and 1922 with both the Minneapolis Marines and the Green Bay Packers.
Two other players have played in the NFL with “Pierre” in their last name. Joe Pierre was a receiver for one season in 1945 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Brian St. Pierre was a quarterback out of Florida State University who saw action in one game in 2004, also for the Steelers.
