Five Fun Facts About The Oilers / Titans!

The Tennessee Titans got their start as the Houston Oilers in the AFC in 1960. Here is a quick look at some interesting Oilers and Titans trivia.

1. Superstar Houston Oilers quarterback Warren Moon is the first quarterback to be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after not being selected in the NFL Draft.

2. During the Tennessee Titans first three seasons after moving to Tennessee they played their home games in three different stadiums; Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Vanderbilt Stadium and LP Field.

3. Bruce Matthews, one of the best offensive linemen ever, played his whole NFL career for one franchise. He did however play under three different team names; the Houston Oilers, the Tennessee Oilers, and the Tennessee Titans.

4. The Houston Oilers were charter members of the American Football League and experienced early success, playing in each of the first three AFL Championship Games, winning the first two.

5. Tennessee is one of two teams currently in the NFL to have gone by the name Titans. When the New York Jets joined the American Football League in 1960, they played their first couple of seasons as the New York Titans.
