In recent years, the Atlanta Falcons running game has been a big part of the team’s success. The Falcons have had ups and downs over their many seasons in the NFL, but through it all how has the running game fared?

Here is a look at the five best rushing seasons in Atlanta Falcons history.

#5 – Gerald Riggs – 1984
Gerald Riggs teamed with William Andrews to form a very impressive running back duo in the early 1980s. In 1984, he carried the ball 353 times for 1,486 yards and 13 touchdowns. He did all this in just 15 games too.

#4 – William Andrews – 1983
In 1983, William Andrews had a great season carrying the ball for the Falcons when he rushed 331 times for 1,567 yards and seven touchdowns.

#3 – Gerald Riggs – 1985
1985 saw Gerald Riggs have another great season. This time carrying the ball 397 times for 1,719 yards and 10 touchdowns. Most impressively, Riggs finished the season with no lost fumbles.

#2 – Michael Turner – 2008
Michael Turner had another of the great rushing seasons in team history in 2008 when he had 376 carries for 1,699 yards and 17 touchdowns. This would set the team record for most rushing touchdowns in one season.

#1 – Jamal Anderson – 1998
Jamal Anderson was a workhorse in the late 1990’s. In 1998 he rushed the ball 410 times for 1,846 yards and 14 touchdowns.
