The Most 1000 Yard Rushing Seasons In Green Bay Packers History

The Green Bay Packers have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL dating back to the very beginning of the league. They have had a number of successful eras through the years and with that, a number of great players.

Running back has always been an important position to the Packers and they have had some of the best. One of the most used yardsticks when measuring a running back’s effectiveness is the 1,000 yard season. A running back who rushes for more than 1,000 yards in a season can generally be seen as one of the better backs in the league.

What Green Bay Packers players have the most 1,000 yard rushing seasons though?

Through the 2010 season, eight total players have rushed for 1,000 or more yards in a season for the Packers. Three of those have only done it one time, they are Tony Canaden in 1949, Terdell Middleton in 1978, and Edgar Bennett in 1995.

Dorsey Levens – 2
Dorsey Levens was an important piece in the Packers machinery of the late 1990s. In 1997 and 1999 he passed the 1,000 yard rushing mark and helped the team immensely.

Ryan Grant – 2
Ryan Grant has broken the 1,000 yard mark twice during his short career. He did it in back to back seasons, 2008 and 2009, and looks to be poised to help the team out a great deal in the future.

John Brockington – 3
John Brockington is one of the all time Packer greats. He was very successful at the beginning of the 1970s and kept the team in many games they should have probably lost. He broke the 1,000 yard barrier in three consecutive years from 1971 to 1973.

Jim Taylor – 5
The Packers of the 1960s had an incredible amount of talent, but when it came to running the ball no one did it like Jim Taylor. Taylor put together a string of five straight 1,000 yard seasons from 1960 to 1964, right in the middle of the Packers run of championship dominance.

Ahman Green – 6
The Packers got Ahman Green in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks and really went on to get great use out of him. Every year for six straight years, from 2000 to 2006, Green was effective enough to gain more than 1,000 rushing yards in a season.

Of all the great names that have played running back for the Green Bay Packers, the name that sits atop the list of those able to amass 1,000 or more rushing yards in a season in none other than Ahman Green.
