The Winningest Quarterbacks In Arizona Cardinals History

The Arizona Cardinals are one of the oldest franchises in the National Football League. They started out in 1920 and have been based in Chicago, St. Louis, and Phoenix over the years.

During that time, the Cardinals have had some great years and also quite a few down years too. Like all teams, a lot of how they have done has rested on the talent and arm of the players playing quarterback. Who though are the winningest quarterbacks in Cardinals history?

#1 – 87 Wins
No player has more wins as the starting quarterback of the Cardinals than the man who quarterbacked the team during the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s, Jim Hart. Hart also leads the team in other passing categories too, including passing touchdowns and passing yards.

#2 – 47 Wins
At number two on the list is the man who threw the ball for the during almost all of the 1980’s, Neil Lomax.

#3 – 36 Wins
The third spot on the list is reserved for the quarterback of the team during the 1960’s, Charley Johnson.

#4 – 30 Wins
When he joined the team, there were high hopes for the team as everyone thought the Cardinals finally had their franchise quarterback. Sitting at number four is Jake Plummer.

#5 – 27 Wins
He was given up on by two other teams, but he came to Arizona as a backup or veteran influence and eventually led the team to it’s first appearance in Super Bowl. The number five spot belongs to Kurt Warner.

#6 – 15 Wins
He came to the Cardinals when they were still located in Chicago and quarterbacked for them during the second half of the 1950’s. He would also play for the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, and the Baltimore Colts on two different occasions. The number six spot is reserved for Lamar McHan.

#7 – 10 Wins
The number seven spot is held by a young man who showed great promise and raised hopes for the team, but in the end it just didn’t work out. It’s where you will find Josh McCown.

#8 – 9 Wins
He was one of the first free agents that the Cardinals signed after the rule changes in the early 1990’s. He came over from the Dallas Cowboys and put up nine wins in two seasons. The number eight spot belongs to Steve Beuerlein.

#9 – 7 Wins
He is another one of the young quarterbacks that at one time or another the team has pinned his hopes on. Unfortunately for him, the player who was supposed to be his mentor ended up leading the team to the Super Bowl. With seven wins, the number nine spot belongs to Matt Leinart.

#10 – 5 Wins
Seven different players have played quarterback for the Cardinals and put up five career wins. They are all tied at number ten on the list, and they are Chris Chandler, Sam Etcheverry, Kent Graham, Gary Hogeboom, Timm Rosenbach, Jay Schroeder, and Charlie Trippi.
