The Five Quarterbacks Who Threw For More Than 500 Yards And Lost


Quarterbacks are measured by a number of yard sticks.  There is the 3,000 yard season, the 300 yard game, and the 60% completion percentage.  A quarterback that has an exceptional game may even pass the 400 passing yard mark.  Five quarterbacks though have passed for more than 500 yards in a game and still lost.

Vince Ferragamo – Los Angeles Rams
December 26, 1982

In a 34-26 loss to the Chicago Bears, Vince Ferragamo completed 30 of 46 passes for 509 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Phil Simms – New York Giants
October 13th, 1985

Phil Simms completed 40 of 62 passes for 513 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 35-30 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dan Marino – Miami Dolphins
October 23rd, 1988

In a 44-30 loss to the rival New York Jets, Dan Marino went 35 of 60 for 521 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Elvis Grbac – Kansas City Chiefs
November 5th, 2000

In a 49-31 loss to the Oakland Raiders, Elvis Grbac completed 39 of 53 passes for 504 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints
November 19th, 2006

The Saints lost to the Cincinnati Bengals by the score of 31-16 on a day when Drew Brees completed 37 of 52 passes for 510 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
