Every week there are anywhere from 12 to 16 games going on during the NFL regular season. With 32 teams in the league, each playing a 16 game schedule, that is a whole lot of different final scores over the course of a season.
What is the most popular final score in NFL history though?
Throughout the history of the league, including the post season, more games have ended with the score of 20-17 than have ended with any other score. Through the 2009 season, 231 different games had ended with the score being 20-17.
In second place, but behind by quite a bit with 180 games ending in it through 2009, is the final score of 17-14.
When it comes to figuring out what the rarest or most seldom seen final score is, it is a little more difficult as there are many possible scores that have never happened. An example of these would be 20-11, 25-28, 39-30, and 43-16. There are also hundreds of examples of final scores that have only been reached once too, including 8-6, 16-8, 27-18, 34-22, and 40-39.
Interestingly, five games in history have ended with a score of 2-0, and there is some interesting information surrounding those.
