Facts and information about the Chicago Bears

  • After the inaugural USFL season in 1983 was completed, the owners of the Arizona Wranglers and the Chicago Blitz traded every player on their respective rosters to the other team. Essentially, all the 1983 Wranglers played for the Blitz in 1984 and the entire 1983 Blitz played for the Wranglers in 1984.
  • The first coach of the Chicago Blitz was legendary football coach George Allen. A year earlier he had outwardly pursued the head coaching job of the NFL’s Chicago Bears that eventually went to Mike Ditka.
  • When the Blitz traded entire rosters with the Arizona Wranglers, Head Coach George Allen was included in the deal. In need of a Head Coach, Chicago hired future Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy.
  • The single season record for passing yards for the Chicago Blitz is held by Quarterback Vince Evans who also played for awhile in the NFL for the Chicago Bears.
  • The single season rushing and receiving records for the Chicago Blitz are held by Running Back Tim Spencer and Wide Receiver Trumaine Johnson, respectively.
