  • The Pittsburgh Maulers played only one season in the USFL. They were an expansion team following the USFL’s first season of play, and then after the 1984 season ended the owner folded the team for both financial reasons and not wanting to compete head-to-head with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL when the USFL announced its planned moved to a fall schedule.
  • The owner of the Maulers was Edward DeBartolo Sr., father of Edward DeBartolo Jr., famous onetime owner of the San Francisco 49ers.
  • In the Pittsburg Maulers only season in existence, their record was 3-15.
  • Two of the Maulers three wins during their first and only season in the USFL were against the Washington Federals who they had tied with for the worst record in the league at 3-15.
