Facts and information about the Berlin Thunder

  • The Berlin Thunder is the second international American football team to use the name Thunder. The WLAF’s Orlando Thunder played in the early 1990s.
  • The Berlin Thunder entered NFL Europe in 1999 as the replacement for the London (later England) Monarchs who had been disbanded.
  • In the five year span from 2001 to 2005, the Berlin Thunder made it to the World Bowl four times and became champions of NFL Europe by winning it three times.
  • During the 2006 season, the Berlin Thunder played in a tie game with the Hamburg Sea Devils. This was only the second tie in World League/NFL Europa history and the final score of 17-17 was identical to the final score of the first tie game in 1992.
  • In the nine seasons from 1999 through 2007 the Berlin Thunder either went to the World Bowl to play for the championship (4 times), or finished in 6th place in the league (5 times).
