San Antonio Wings

Facts and information about the San Antonio Wings

  • The San Antonio Wings played more regular season games than any other World Football League team in 1975. Before the league folded, the Wings had played 13 games. Most other teams had played either 11 or 12, with one franchise (Chicago) only playing five.
  • The San Antonio Wings franchise had been the Florida Blazers franchise the year before, making it all the way to the championship game before losing to Birmingham. Before being the Florida Blazers, the team had originally been planned for Washington DC but had trouble finding a stadium. Had they played in the D.C. area, it would’ve been either as the Washington Ambassadors or the Virginia Ambassadors.
  • The Head Coach of the San Antonio Wings was Jack Pardee. Pardee played thirteen seasons at Linebacker in the NFL and after his stint with the Wings, coached the Chicago Bears and Houston Oilers of the NFL.
